What is Aerial Yoga?
Aerial Yoga
Based in traditional hatha yoga, aerial yoga uses the hammock to refine, realign, restore, and renew your mat practice. It’s yoga, in the AIR! Aerial yoga is accessible to everybody, it’s designed for all ages and all levels and types of bodies, from kids to adults. Aerial yoga benefits the advanced yogi as well is the beginner yogi. The hammock guides you into poses you may have never thought possible! The hammock offers the ability to have safe alignment while giving you a prop to hold onto for balance as well as a spotting device.
The hammock swivels freely on a single point. It allows you too deepen your stretch, correct your alignment, and safely perform inversions with the support of the hammock.
Full Circle Yoga KC is thrilled to bring AIReal Yoga, a Yoga Alliance approved aerial yoga. AIReal Yoga is the only and first form of aerial yoga training recognized by the Yoga Alliance. Our instructor Amanda is AIReal certified, who is truly passionate about sharing the love of aerial yoga with everyone!
If you are like me I was a bit intimidated at the thought of taking an AIReal yoga class, I mean I’ve never considered myself a die-hard yogi. Rarely had I done inversions in a yoga class, and quit frankly I’ve never really been a fan of inversions. It didn’t take long once I was guided into my hammock that I felt like a kid, giggling at the fun of taking flight with the support of the silk hammock.
We began the class with using the hammock as a prop to hold onto as we began to warm our body up. We held on to the hammock as we glided side to side to open our rib cage. We did beautiful heart openers!
We used the hammock to hang in chair pose to help elongate our spine…amazing stretch and I”m sure I grew 1/8 of an inch! As we were suspended in the hammock we did a seated pigeon pose that offered a deep stretch into the gluteal muscle, such a great stretch to release emotional tension!
We then used our hammock prop to suspend one leg then two legs for full body stretches and an opportunity to build heat and endurance. My favorite was plank with feet in the hammock!
We worked our way into sitting in the hammock, stage 1. We practiced some fun poses to prepare for inversions like half boat, in the hammock and moved our way into inversion poses like star and bat!
What fun to allow yourself to let go and just feel the innocence of a child! We ended our class with the most glorious savasana, floating savasana with assisted foot and back massage ! I felt like I was on a cloud as the hammock had the most gentle movement. I felt myself completely relaxed as I was suspended almost weightless.
The class ended and I felt clear, energized, relaxed, and proud of stepping out of my comfort zone! Take flight and flip your hour glass with AIReal Yoga at Full Circle Yoga KC!
