Prenatal Yoga Can Help Flip a Breech Baby
Here are some poses that are specific to helping baby get into optimal position of head down for birth. These poses will open up space in pelvis to give baby lots of room to move so he/she rotate into head-down position. Be patient and hold poses for an extended period of time, approximately 5-10 minutes at least daily and up to three times a day, to give baby lots of time to move. Do these poses during times when baby is active, which will increase chances of baby moving into the desired position.
- Standing hip circles- Standing and moving hips into circles
- Butt up Child’s pose- lift buttocks up while in child pose.
- Supported bridge pose- place bean-bag, cushions, or yoga blocks under lower back and get hips as high as you can.
- Dolphin pose- and rock forward and back, keep doing this until your arms get tired and then come down into butt-up child’s pose
- Downward Dog- hold downward dog as long as you can come into butt up child’s pose to rest.
- Shoulder stand with wall support- walk feet up the wall, hands down on floor, lift pelvis up, place hands right underneath hips and support yourself in lower back. Hold this pose as long as you can, which opens your pelvic area. Place hands on the floor and slowly lower your back down onto floor.
Another helpful hint: place an ice pack where you believe baby’s head to be, he/she will want to move away from the cold!
