What to Expect From a Hatha Yoga Class

What to Expect From a Hatha Yoga Class

What to Expect From a Hatha Yoga Class

Full Circle Yoga KC was created through a vision to offer prenatal yoga that supported, challenged, encouraged, and helped Mamas consciously think about the birthing journey they wished to have.  Since opening the studio just over three years ago my vision has grown to support Mamas through prenatal and postnatal as well as families.  We live in a society that demands a lot of us- work, parenthood, friendships, family, exercise, and more.  I believe many of us are standing back and taking a look at how to better find balance and connection to those around us.

Part of creating a space that supports Mamas through pregnancy and beyond as well as families is creating a variety of classes.   Mamas often ask what class should they take when they are ready to get back to exercising.  I encourage starting with BYOB (Bring Your Own Baby) yoga class, so they can be with and meet their baby’s needs, while practicing yoga, and get the community support that Mamas need during the forth trimester.  While it is often Mamas that are on maternity leave, it’s not a class just for Mamas– Dads and grandparents are welcome to attend too!  The next class I suggest is a Hatha yoga class that can be modified to touch on specific needs as well as de-stress and reconnect to self.   When Mamas find time to breath, connect with her body through yoga, she ALWAYS walks away feeling stronger, centered, and feeling a sense of overall wellness.

Hatha yoga is a class that supports and benefits anyone that walks into a class.  It’s great for stretching, but it provides so much more! It’s a class that can support and improve balance, strength, endurance, and calm the mind when the body is struggling.  It’s a class that offers a beautiful balance of challenge and calmness to restore the body mentally and physically.  It is said that practicing yoga even once a week you can reap the benefits.  I have found that with many Mamas who began yoga because they heard prenatal yoga was good for them and baby continued after having a baby because they found the benefits to be much more than they had anticipated.

Building immunity is one of the many benefits of Hatha yoga.  Through contracting and stretching muscles, moving organs around, and moving in and out of poses you support the lymphatic system fight infection.  Since opening the studio and increasing my yoga practice I have seen a HUGE improvement in my health.  It’s  rare I’m sick.

We could all take time out to relax the mind and release tension in our body.  It’s probably one of the main reasons folks keep coming back to a Hatha yoga class.  They feel the immediate benefit when walking away after practice.

When you find a yoga instructor and space that speaks to you, you know it and you feel it, like buying a house, when you walk in, you just know it’s the right house. When I met Sarah Hockla, I knew immediately  I wanted her positive energy and ability to meet each person where they are to be a part of the Full Circle Yoga KC family.  She shared that she wanted to make it a class that wasn’t intimidating for any level, a class that wasn’t filled with lots of Sanskrit which can be intimidating for those that may be new to the practice of yoga.  Those that have taken her class have said “it’s a completely non-intimidating, really wonderful class.  I’m a chunky non athletic, non-yoga kinda gal and she’s made me fall in love with the yoga practice.”  I love this beautiful compliments for all the reasons this woman shared.  Yoga can be for everyone, you just have to find the right instructor and sacred space to appreciate and fall in love with the practice.

The vision for Full Circle Yoga KC is becoming a reality with our new studio in midtown KC and I can’t wait for you all to feel the energy and see the beauty of the new space! 2019 brings new classes and growth to Full Circle Yoga KC.  I have you all to thank for this amazing new growth and bringing the vision to light.  I have witnessed strength and beauty in Mamas who came to the studio during pregnancy yoga and prepare for the mental and physical strength it takes to bring new life into the world.  I’ve heard the most beautiful birth stories, each one powerful and time-honored.  I’ve seen pure love and the tender touch of partners in Prenatal Partner yoga.  Watching Mamas and babies connect during BYOB and Mamas find a tribe at Full Circle Yoga KC fills my heart with joy!

So with the new year comes awesome changes! Full Circle Yoga KC is in it to support Mamas-To-Be, Partners, Toddlers, Kids, and Adults in this awesome journey of life! You don’t want to miss what’s on our schedule and whats coming and I can’t wait to see you there!

Hatha Yoga is a class that emphasizes strengthening the physical body by focusing on body posture and breath control.  In this friendly flow class we work to find balance with mind, body, and spirit.  Benefits of hatha yoga include maintaining a healthy body, relaxing, improve flexibility, and build muscle strength and balance.  This class is open to everyone!  It’s a wonderful class for Mamas postpartum.  Yoga isn’t about how one looks but how one feels with yoga.

EVERY body Yoga class is for all ages of women and men and all levels of yoga experience welcome. Ground yourself in this slow and refreshing practice of meditation, breath work, and asanas (poses) to support mind-body awareness. Yoga isn’t about how one looks but how one feels with yoga. This body positive yoga flow supports your yoga practice wherever you are. This is a wonderful class for all levels and postpartum Mamas wanting to return to their mat.

Power Vinyasa class moves from one pose to the next using sun salutations and postures that connect to one another. This class focuses on building strength within this flow, so this class is best for adults with some previous yoga experience.  Each class includes flow, balance, strength, compression, twists, hip/heart openers, core work and a built-in peaceful rest at the end.  This is a wonderful class for the postnatal mama who feels fully recovered and busy person looking to sweat and wind down from their day. This class is not recommended for prenatal mamas.

Mama and Little Movers class is for little movers up to the age of 18 months and their caregivers. This class is filled with songs, movement, and games for older babies and early-walking toddlers.

Big Kids through basic acro (kids using partners to create poses) kids will build TRUST, in themselves and their community. This class is for all levels of big kids ages 8-12 years old.

AIReal Yoga…… coming soon in January!!! Yoga in the air!!! AIReal yoga uses looped fabric that allows you to swivel, deepen your stretch, correct your alignment, and refine postures.

Postpartum Exercise

December 20, 2018 by Full Circle KC

The act of giving birth is no small feat! Nor is the first several months after your sweet little one arrives!  Your life has changed completely as you know it!!! The fourth trimester is all about figuring out life with a little human and finding moments to sleep!  For many Mamas one way of self care is finding time to get back into an exercise program.  While the body is still doing a great deal of recovery postpartum, high impact and rigorous workouts should wait until your body has eased into exercise again.  Getting the green light from your health care provider is recommended before beginning a postpartum exercise program.

One of the best ways to ease into the fourth trimester and beyond is yoga.  Postpartum yoga can help you reconnect with your body and relax the mind as you journey through this stage of parenthood.  While baby sleeps, a short yoga flow is a great way to re-energize and give back to yourself.  Some benefits of postpartum yoga include:

  • reset the hips and joints back into place
  • support the hormonal changes by stimulating endorphins and cortisol levels
  • rebuild strength, stamina, and muscles endurance
  • release tension
  • connect with other Mamas who are on the same journey of motherhood

Full Circle Yoga KC offers yoga classes that help support postpartum Mamas through Mommy and Baby, Hatha and Vinyasa classes.   Relax, reconnect, and create a tribe of other Mamas on the beautiful journey of motherhood.  With our new location in KC, Equal Minded Cafe is a great place to grab a coffee while you continue your conversations and strengthen your relationship with other Mamas.
