Are you Depleted or Full?

November 30, 2023 by Full Circle KC

We have filled the studio space with so much gratitude energy this month, talking all things gratitude. I hope you’re feeling that refreshed joyful energy in your spirit when you leave the studio, and take it out into the world and pass it along.  Gratitude matters and research shows it can foster greater life satisfaction, even when life feels heavy, and for many, this time of year, and all that’s happening in the world, the feeling of heavy is real.
I ate lunch with a dear friend of mine a few weeks ago and she asked a question that has stayed with me and I want to share her wisdom with you, especially as we enter the holiday season.
Does it make you feel full or depleted? Did anyone else go WOW after reading this? When my schedule is booked with activities, or to-dos, or, being an uber driver to my children, or my work, I’ve been asking myself do I feel full or depleted? I can 100% say without hesitation when I’m at Full Circle Yoga KC I feel FULL! I have such a tremendous amount of gratitude for the Mamas, Dads, Partners, Parents, and Kiddos I get to share time, space, and energy with at FCYKC.   I think I have the best job ever! When I’m feeling run down or over extended I have to evaluate where I feel depleted and decide if I can let that go or sometimes it’s a matter of reframing the thought from “I have to”, to “I get to” and it changes my whole perspective.
As I sign off to connect with family and friends for the upcoming holiday, I hope you find a feeling of fullness and gratitude.

Prenatal Yoga Prepares the Mind and Body for the Pushing Phase of Birth

October 2, 2023 by Full Circle KC

Prenatal Yoga Helps You Practice and Prepare for the Pushing Phase of Birth

I’m trying not to hold my breath while waiting to welcome Autumn! Speaking of holding breath, this month’s questions have been centered around pushing.  Do I hold my breath? Can I breathe when it’s time to push? What’s open glottis pushing vs. Valsalva pushing? What can my partner do to support me while I’m in the second stage of labor/pushing phase? What position do I envision myself to be in for breathing my baby into the world?

In our prenatal yoga classes we cover AND practice (this is where prenatal yoga can play such an invaluable support in preparing for birth)  pushing positions, different breathing techniques during pushing, how to advocate for yourself during this phase of birth, how your partner can play an active role as you breathe your baby earthside.  Practicing birth positions and breath work during prenatal yoga class builds the muscle memory for birth! It’s an opportunity to rehearse what feels good and right for your body while you’re tuning inward on your yoga mat.  When the moment comes to begin pushing your baby into the world, the techniques you’ve practiced/rehearsed at prenatal yoga will empower you for pushing your bundle of joy into the world.

Breath is the way through pushing as it’s the way through contractions and parenthood and waiting for the change in seasons.  I’m looking forward to breathing in the crispness of fall in the coming days.

Happy Fall! As we transition into crisper and cooler days (thank goodness), I hope it brings a new found energy! The energy is certainly feeling vibrant and alive at the studio! We have more teachers and more yoga classes and workshops than ever before! In case you aren’t on social media (high five to you!), or it didn’t show up on your feed here’s a run down of what’s happening through the end of 2022!  We continue to have our strong and amazing prenatal and postpartum (several options) yoga classes. And now, we can offer even more to the wellness of growing KC families!
Flow +1!! A vinyasa flow class that has the added benefit of brining your infant! Bri, a FCYKC Mama, will have her sweet Vera with her! Babies not required to attend this class. Starting this Sunday at 10:30am!!! Bri recently subbed a yoga class and everyone was raving about her class! Don’t miss out! She’s pretty amazing!!!
I will be teaching my first Fertility Yoga Series beginning Monday October 3rd 6pm-8pm.  This has been something I’ve wanted to offer since the birth of FCYKC.  Experiencing my own challenges with TTC, I remember the heavy feelings and loneliness I experienced.  I hope to offer a safe and welcoming space for those experiencing fertility challenges to practice yoga and build community with others.  Please share if you know someone that this class may speak to.
Kids Yoga is every SUNDAY at 9am with Chelsea! For ages preschoolish to early elementary school.  We encourage parents to join too! Showing our children the importance of self-care is an invaluable life lesson.
Postpartum Restorative Yoga is every Saturday now at noon with Miracle! I LOVE her classes! Infants are welcome, however the class is focused on mama’s needs and recovery.
First Saturday (that’s tomorrow) we have our Chat and Milk support group with Morgan Jackson at Prepared Beginnings.  We will be talking about stress and how it impacts feeding our babies.

Do The Research But Be Prepared For Not Finding The Answer….

April 15, 2021 by Full Circle KC

Do the Research, But Be Prepared For Not Finding The Answer

Reading all the books you can about birth, postpartum, motherhood, breastfeeding, sleeping? Listening to all the recommended podcasts before baby arrives? That was me… and… it’s still me…. trying to get all the expert advice and research on how to raise our children…. especially now, as we begin to enter the world of tweens!

Does the research and prep really help when thrown into parenthood? Depending on the day the answer may be different! Somedays, it’s absolutely! And, other days it’s a resounding NO and I can’t find the answer often resulting in tears and feelings of failure and alone.  I remember those tears as I struggled with breastfeeding my daughter.  I had all the “best,” “recommended,” “must have if you want to breastfeed” books but breastfeeding didn’t come easy.  I also remember finding a book that gave us such wonderful tools and guidance when “time-outs” didn’t feel right for us.

It’s important to arm yourself with as much knowledge as possible from books and classes. But, don’t forget your own wisdom and instincts when you are in the trenches of motherhood, it can be just as important as the books.

As much as the books promise to have all the answers, there is no user manual for your child no matter how many books you read.  Best practices you’ve read may not work and that’s ok.  Sometimes the answers aren’t in a book.   There are no answers sometimes.  For some of us,  not having answers feels really vulnerable and scary, and it is!! Sometimes the best answer is within your mamas instinct and listening to your gut.  Sometimes it really is the old adage of try and if at first you don’t succeed, try, try, again.  Letting there be room for air and breath and giving yourself the ok not to follow the rules and improvise can be so liberating!!! And that just may be where you find the answer you’re looking for!

The books, podcasts, classes are all so incredibly helpful, offering tools (and sometimes some good tricks!), as guidance.  I think that’s the key in that these wonderful resources we learn from are tools in guiding us as parents.  If we can listen and trust our gut, be okay with trial and error, and give ourselves grace when we make mistakes we will raise confident, bright, kind, creative, critical thinking, champions of change children.

Finding a community of other Mamas is a wonderful resource to share ideas and experiences and receive ideas and experiences.  There’s nothing like real life lessons shared among Mamas, sometimes there’s tears of laughter and sometimes it’s tears of struggle.  Our Mamas and families at Full Circle Yoga KC have tremendous wisdom, courage and willingness to share vulnerable lessons of parenthood! There is a natural energy of uplifting and holding space for women who are on the journey of motherhood at Full Circle Yoga KC that is truly what makes Full Circle Yoga KC such a special place.

It has been a long year, a REALLY long year of having to be at a distance from each other.  I’m tremendously grateful for zoom classes and the deep dedication of our community as we faced such hardships this last year.  My heart fills as the vibe and energy returns to the studio with expectant Mamas returning for Prenatal Yoga, Mamas and Babies return to BYOB Yoga Class and Mamas and Littles attend Mama and Movers Yoga Class.

Full Circle Yoga KC is family centered yoga studio in Midtown Kansas City specializing in  Prenatal Yoga, Prenatal Partner Yoga, Baby Yoga,  and many family-centered workshops.
